Designs resembling paintings from the 18th century with a more realistic scale were woven. Maritime and port scenes were popular subjects with Flemish weavers. Flemish was a Dutch language spoken in Flanders, a region divided between Belgium, France and the Netherlands. From the Dutch, Vlamisch Tapestry designs show country houses in idyllic landscapes and well laid out gardens, The Haywain and Lake Como being excellent examples.
Old merchant ships, dock scenes and maps also feature here. A splendid series of tapestries showing the seasons with a particularly large seasonal tapestry are found in this section.
